“This Poem Is Haunted” by Rob MacWolf (read by Madison Scott-Clary)

Today, Madison Scott-Clary is reading you a poem by Rob MacWolf, who, if pressed, will admit that not all poems are autobiographical, and you can find more of his stories on his SoFurry page.

It has long been observed that storytelling and sorcery are more alike than not. It is not for nothing that in the most ancient forms of this very language, the word ‘spell’ meant both a story told, and a formula of power over the living universe. But judge the truth of that for yourself in ‘This Poem Is Haunted’ tonight on… The Ghost of Dog.

‘This Poem Is Haunted’

Speaker:

tonight on… The Ghost of Dog. “This Poem Is Haunted”, by Rob Macwolf

Speaker:

This is the house that he built out of breath.

Speaker:

That was his living.

Speaker:

This is his death.

Speaker:

These are his clothes, though he needs them no more.

Speaker:

Those were his shoes, left outside the door.

Speaker:

These are peeled grapes,

Speaker:

but pretend they're his eyes.

Speaker:

These are his teeth of unusual size.

Speaker:

This is his hopefulness, quite atrophied,

Speaker:

And that's just the wind,

Speaker:

a-whistling outside.

Speaker:

This is a message.

Speaker:

Perhaps meant to be Received by somebody,

Speaker:

posthumously. This is his altar to unheard-of gods.

Speaker:

Here did they hear him.

Speaker:

What are the odds?

Speaker:

This is his heart that they carved out of wood.

Speaker:

This is his body.

Speaker:

This is his blood.

Speaker:

These are the words that are left

Speaker:

of his mind, And that

Speaker:

is the sky he is somewhere

Speaker:

behind. This was “This Poem Is Haunted”
