Speaker:and Today we present a poem

Speaker:Memory is full of holes.
Speaker:A temple missing color
Speaker:interpreted through a modern lens.
Speaker:Unnecessary moments
Speaker:committed to the shredder
Speaker:treasures locked away
Speaker:for a rainy day. Or at least,
Speaker:I assume. My earliest
Speaker:are of not remembering
Speaker:the time I had a lisp
Speaker:being the pink Power Ranger for Halloween.
Speaker:No one remembers their early childhood,
Speaker:I heard so that was me, at four
Speaker:five six eleven
Speaker:thirteen. I want to write horror
Speaker:words to be remembered in nightmares
Speaker:birthing panic attacks on the train
Speaker:imagining bones broken and limbs tied.
Speaker:Write about childhood fears,
Speaker:the greats say but I don’t want to write about losing the house to the bank
Speaker:not getting into college
Speaker:being trapped in a small town forever.
Speaker:So I grab my shovel and dig.
Speaker:Mental permafrost halts my blade
Speaker:but I see glitter past the ice
Speaker:broken glass and shattered stone.
Speaker:The Geiger counter crackles to life
Speaker:this is not a place of honor
Speaker:no great deeds commemorated here.
Speaker:The beryllium shell breeches the surface
Speaker:a memory of not-remembering.
Speaker:A girl afraid of her father
Speaker:doing things she had no words for
Speaker:but only colors shapes
Speaker:impressions and roiling doubt.
Speaker:“Surely, if that happened to me, I would remember.
Speaker:No one would ever forget that!”
Speaker:There’s a line between the half-spheres
Speaker:promise of the plutonium within
Speaker:festering for decades a 20,000 year half-promise of venom
Speaker:for the waters of my soul.
Speaker:A quick twist of the shovel to pop it open
Speaker:release a brilliant flash of blue
Speaker:burning until only my shadow remains
Speaker:and in no shape to write a best-seller
Speaker:defeating the entire purpose of this expedition.
Speaker:I leave the demon core be the
Speaker:sleeping dragon’s tail untickled;
Speaker:I can write about them instead
Speaker:perhaps one with a treasure
Speaker:that can end the world
Speaker:locked away for a rainy day.
