Speaker:

This is Rob MacWolf your fellow traveler,

Speaker:

and Today we present a poem

Speaker:

by Æ et al., a poet composed of several dragons in a trench coat.

Speaker:

Please enjoy “Memory”,

Speaker:

a poem by Æ et al.

Speaker:

Memory is full of holes.

Speaker:

A temple missing color

Speaker:

interpreted through a modern lens.

Speaker:

Unnecessary moments

Speaker:

committed to the shredder

Speaker:

treasures locked away

Speaker:

for a rainy day. Or at least,

Speaker:

I assume. My earliest

Speaker:

are of not remembering

Speaker:

the time I had a lisp

Speaker:

being the pink Power Ranger for Halloween.

Speaker:

No one remembers their early childhood,

Speaker:

I heard so that was me, at four

Speaker:

five six eleven

Speaker:

thirteen. I want to write horror

Speaker:

words to be remembered in nightmares

Speaker:

birthing panic attacks on the train

Speaker:

imagining bones broken and limbs tied.

Speaker:

Write about childhood fears,

Speaker:

the greats say but I don’t want to write about losing the house to the bank

Speaker:

not getting into college

Speaker:

being trapped in a small town forever.

Speaker:

So I grab my shovel and dig.

Speaker:

Mental permafrost halts my blade

Speaker:

but I see glitter past the ice

Speaker:

broken glass and shattered stone.

Speaker:

The Geiger counter crackles to life

Speaker:

this is not a place of honor

Speaker:

no great deeds commemorated here.

Speaker:

The beryllium shell breeches the surface

Speaker:

a memory of not-remembering.

Speaker:

A girl afraid of her father

Speaker:

doing things she had no words for

Speaker:

but only colors shapes

Speaker:

impressions and roiling doubt.

Speaker:

“Surely, if that happened to me, I would remember.

Speaker:

No one would ever forget that!”

Speaker:

There’s a line between the half-spheres

Speaker:

promise of the plutonium within

Speaker:

festering for decades a 20,000 year half-promise of venom

Speaker:

for the waters of my soul.

Speaker:

A quick twist of the shovel to pop it open

Speaker:

release a brilliant flash of blue

Speaker:

burning until only my shadow remains

Speaker:

and in no shape to write a best-seller

Speaker:

defeating the entire purpose of this expedition.

Speaker:

I leave the demon core be the

Speaker:

sleeping dragon’s tail untickled;

Speaker:

I can write about them instead

Speaker:

perhaps one with a treasure

Speaker:

that can end the world

Speaker:

locked away for a rainy day.

Speaker:

This was “Memory” by Æ et al.,

Speaker:

read for you by Yuugenshou,

Speaker:

wolf of wanderlust.

Speaker:

Thank you for listening
