They say we lead to borrow freedom,

Speaker:

Freedom to let us be.

Speaker:

Perhaps, my dear, you’d be so kind As to share your freedom with me?

Speaker:

Forget distress, to hell with the rest,

Speaker:

Curling onward – you think the shadows care?

Speaker:

Honey, what danger?

Speaker:

They do no more than stare,

Speaker:

At you and I: our passing by.

Speaker:

Clip-clop, clip-soft:

Speaker:

hooves to pine spines,

Speaker:

Sharp and stale from time’s fall.

Speaker:

We shall take heed of flight, dare not stall, Hooves flicked airborne, a moment lost.

Speaker:

Two are one but one

Speaker:

is two And must farewell

Speaker:

on life’s way. Yet I do so wish that I could stay In the shadow of your musty sweetness.

Speaker:

When twilight groans, do you watch

Speaker:

For a figure, rearing from the dark?

Speaker:

Scrambling up bareback, that forbidden lark,

Speaker:

Now the gate is latched and you graze

Speaker:

alone. This was “The Red Mare”
