Speaker:The dogs assure me: There are volumes of meaning —
Speaker:Life and death — And time;
Speaker:Past, present, future —
Speaker:In the scent of a rotting fish left after the flood,
Speaker:Or a trace of scat,
Speaker:Or the coyote, long passed,
Speaker:But not everyone reads poetry.
Speaker:I'm not so lucky, all told:
Speaker:The rich scent of meaning —
Speaker:Heady, intoxicating —
Speaker:Rises only from words And the way you rest your hands on the table.
