Speaker:a poem by Æ et al.
Speaker:1. the vessel broke upon the wheel
Speaker:hands too rough on earth so soft
Speaker:it went into the fire
Speaker:regardless a spirit
Speaker:seeped out from the cracks
Speaker:gnashing teeth, lashing tail,
Speaker:undirected further cracking
Speaker:its porcelain shell
Speaker:2. a dragon coalesced from the smoke and begun hoarding the shards,
Speaker:first as a pile and then replacing scales
Speaker:one by one, shielding raw earth always new stress fractures, new weld joints
Speaker:of molten gold between porcelain scales
Speaker:3. what a novel concept –
Speaker:to celebrate signs of failure
Speaker:aren’t you made of tougher stuff?
Speaker:you’re of the same earth, the same fire
Speaker:so what did you do that wasn’t enough?
Speaker:4. clumsy claws shiny scales
Speaker:rebuilding itself
Speaker:coiling ‘round broken jar
Speaker:a facsimile of the original design
Speaker:This was “kintsugi”
