Speaker:the pomegranate is full of jewels
Speaker:brilliant, blood-red pips that pop and
Speaker:ooze juice that dribbles down a child’s chin
Speaker:poured into sparkling clear cold water
Speaker:fizzing, hissing, popping red,
Speaker:chopping-board-staining finger-dyeing,
Speaker:red sweet and tart memory-sustaining
Speaker:the pomegranate falls at the soldier’s feet
Speaker:bursting smoke rises from the orchard
Speaker:as the pop echoes
Speaker:across the valley
Speaker:This was “Grenadine”
